Featured Guest Blogger - Professor Dave's Words...
Molly and Bess have been pestering me for a small contribution to their blog. Aside from offering five useful facts about Moses Hess, it occurred to me that our fine student body should become familiar with the stunning and profound phenomenon of cockney rhyming slang. Cockney’s are those Londoners born within the sound of the Bow Bells, a church in the heart of the East End of the city. Over...

Top 5 CraZy Facts about HUC-JIR Jerusalem
Our first full day here we had the pleasure of taking a tour of our campus with Haim the intern and here are some of the CRaZy facts we learned about our little school.
1. It was founded as an archaeology school in 1963.
2. The administration building opened in 1963, prior to 1967, when this was “No-Mans-Land” and Jordanian attacks were a security threat. It was very difficult ...

Top 5 Things That Happen When You're Just Looking...
Dear readers,
Today was a day that will live in our hearts forever. Today was the day we met Haimi Naftali. Who is this man? Well, we’re so glad you asked. Haimi is a renaissance man - he is a painter, a singer, he owns the flower shop on Emek Refayim, and was allegedly a contestant on Kochav Nolad, the Israeli version of American Idol. We swear, we were just looking for a notary, but...

Scott the Intern’s Top 5 hikes in Israel not to be missed:
1. Nimrod’s Castle: in the Golan, near Mt. Hermon; fun hike, not too hard, with some cool views
2. Yehudia: just East of the Kinneret, a really fun water hike including a couple of natural pools that you have to swim across; there is an upper and lower section and while I encourage doing both, it gives an out if you get...

Featured Guest Blogger - Scott the Intern Speaks
Top 5 random things that Scott wants you to know about:
1. Peimot: Located under Ha’mashbir on King George St., across from the top of Ben Yehuda, this is a drum studio that offers lessons to all skill levels. The guy who runs the place, Abe Doron, is originally from Mexico and spent a bunch of years as the touring drummer for Riverdance. He is a great, nice guy and the studio has a bunch...

Top 5 things NOT to do in Ancient/Medieval/Modern Israel/Canaan. 1. Really Ancient Canaan (before the Israelites get to Jerusalem) - DO NOT be a first-born child. Not much you can actually do about this one, I guess, but nevertheless definitely to be avoided as being the first born child may involve being offered into a pit of fire as a human sacrifice. This was done by the Jebusites in the valley...

High Five to America
Bess: Hey Molly, what would make this the best 4th of July ever?
Molly: Nothing says "I Love America" like a good BBQ.
Bess: Funny you should mention a BBQ...Haim is having one at HUC tonight.
Molly: Well, okay but are sure it's safe to let him cook the meat?
Bess: Aren't you eating "vegetal" sausages anyway?
Molly: Oh right. So I don't need to worry about the bleach Haim is going to marinate the meat in?
Bess: I think you'll be safe. I know the perfect way to end the holiday! We should go to the grand opening of Mike's Kitchen.
Molly: What kind of food is Mike serving?
Bess: It's Mexican and Canadian cuisine, which is obviously why they are having their grand opening on the Independence Day of the USA.
Molly: What is Canadian cuisine anyway?
Bess: According to Mike you just put gravy on everything.
Molly: But do you pinkie swear we can get a waffle from Babette afterwards?
Bess: Best. Fourth. Of. July. Ever.

High Five to the HUC Summer Interns (אנטרנים)
Molly: Hey Bess, don't you loooove the interns?
Bess: You bet your sweet bippy I do!
Molly: But what's your FAAAAVORITE thing about Haim?
Bess: Mostly that he likes to serve bacteria-free food, but also that he's English and super helpful.
Molly: Didn't you love that tour of the library?
Bess: I know, right? So what do you love about Emily?
Molly: Well, I LOVE school supplies, and aren't you excited that she's going to show us where to get fun school supplies?
Bess: Can't wait, and our mutual love for TBS is pretty special. Did I mention that I'm really glad Josh didn't decapitate us for being the last ones to send in our מי ומי? That really would have made blogging super difficult.
Molly: Don't forget how Josh helped us read that the Israeli government is trying to screw us with Arnona. But how about Scott really pulling through for us on those municipality forms?
Bess: How about it?
Molly: I mean, he's really giving Abba Yoni a run for his money.
Bess: Hey, let's go give the interns big hugs for putting up with our lack of internet for an entire week.
