Ushpizin →
It’s been a while since we’ve watched a movie in our Hebrew class, but the fun of summer lives on. Today we watched Ushpizin, a film about a religious couple’s (the wife’s name happens to be Mali…) faith being tested by a pair of unexpected guests for Sukkot.
True, our main character Moshe is no Shlomi, and Mali does all the baking, but it kept Bess on the edge of...

Guest Blogger Brian Immerman Shares his "Soapless...
On September 12, Molly and Bess on Moshe Hess wrote a letter to Supersol asking whether our soapless soap was indeed soapless. Guest blogger, Brian Immerman, responded with his Top 5 Extremely Important, Possibly Disturbing Facts about Soap:
1. Soapless soap is actually soapless. (In the US, it’s rare that you’ll see a product actually with soap on the label, because, i’m sorry...

10 Days. 10 Questions. →
Jodie never ceases to provide us with thought provoking material, and here’s another gem. It’s not too late to start reflecting! Here’s a description of the project:
“10 Days. 10 Questions. Answer one question per day in your own secret online 10Q space. At the end of the ten days, hit a magic button and send your answers to the secure online10Q vault for safekeeping. One...

As the Municipality Turns...
Molly: Hello, my roommate and I sent in our application for the student Arnona discount a few weeks ago and we never heard back from the Municipality.
Man at the Municipality: We sent you a letter saying we were missing some paperwork, did you receive it?
Molly: No....
Man at the Municipality: Okay. Well, your application was sent to the archives, so we'll have to get it out of the archives and then I'll call you back.
Molly: Okay great, thank you!
Two weeks later...
Bess: Hello, my roommate and I sent in our application for the student Arnona discount a month ago and we were told we were missing some paperwork, but they had to get the application from the archives, and we never heard back from the Municipality.
Man #2 at the Municipality: You have to send a fax to the Municipality to prove that you live in the apartment.
Bess: The apartment is already in our names. We've already sent in the application, they were just missing some paperwork.
Man #2 at the Municipality: Talk slower!...You need to send a fax to the Municipality first.
Bess: Okay...goodbye...[awkward silence]
One week later...
Molly: Hello, my roommate and I sent in our application for the student Arnona discount over a month ago and we were told we were missing some paperwork, but we don't know what paperwork is missing.
Lady at the Municipality: You got the discount.
Molly: Oh really? That's great.
Lady at the Municipality: Yeah, you still need to pay though.
It only took two and a half months but we finally got the student Arnona discount. Haimi would be so proud!

Is Tashlich BYO-Crumbs?
– Bess wondering if we needed to bring our own crumbs for Tashlich this afternoon.
A Guided Meditation for Tashlich
Our classmates, Jodie and Matt, led a beautiful Tashlich service at the Independence Park creek, and we wanted to share this guided meditation written by Erika Katske.
“Think back through this past year. Let images enter and exit your mind-small moments, meaningful moments, smells, pictures and faces. Think back now to last Elul, last September: where were you at the last High Holiday...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LENA, BESS’S BIG SISTER!
– No sister, I won’t publicize your age like mom did. You’re welcome.

Featured Guest Blogger - Brandon's 100% Completely...
Given Bess and Molly’s affinity for aesthetically pleasing blog variety, you would initially be tempted to call them true people-pleasers, laid back technologically-adept ladies of our time (you’d be wrong). The Germanic regularity of their posting only hints at the rigid, inflexible expectations they hold for their guest bloggers and themselves. It is under such intense duress that I present to...

1. Taking our Biblical Archaeology Final……?
2. Meeting one of our new professors Paul Liptz who talked about the Yom Kippur War and its effect on the Israeli psyche. Watch out Dave - Paul might give you a run for your money!
3. Yoshi’s Yom Kippur...
Egypt's Jewish Past? →
An interesting article Jonah sent me after our Egypt adventures. Egypt is in the process of restoring its synagogues that have been decaying for decades.

On the Way to the Shuk...
It started with a simple plan: go to the Shuk…and it went downhill from there. These are the Top 5 Places We Stopped on our Way to the Shuk That Kept Us From Actually Going to the Shuk:
1. The downtown Ace Hardware - this happened mainly because everyone said it didn’t exist and we were determined to find it. We had walked by an Ace Hardware before and we were sure we could find it...
