Molly’s Haifa Trip - Day 1

Top 5 “Getting-Out-of-Jerusalem” Experiences:

1. Attending Friday night services at Or Hadash, the progressive synagogue in Haifa! Rabbi Edgar Nof was extremely welcoming and friendly. There were several simchas (including the first Ethiopian girl at their congregation becoming a Bat Mitzvah and a conversion) and Rabbi Nof called up the HUC-JIR students to deliver the priestly blessing with him.

2. Seeing the Bahai Gardens. Allie Harris and I had an interesting conversation with an Israeli about how so many religions have strong connections and feelings toward the land of Israel, and sadly a lot of blood is shed and people fight over it….and the Bahai? They build a garden.

3. Watching the Michael Jackson music video countdown on VH1, even though “Thriller” deserved to be in the top 5.

4. The beautiful views - Haifa is a port town built on a slope, so everywhere you go there are amazing views.

5. The comfortable hotel bed - they’re not up to the “Heavenly Beds” standard, but still amazing.
