Bess’s Egypt Trip - Day 4
We started off our day at Valley of the Kings where a good number of Pharaoh’s are buried. Our ticket allowed us to enter 3 tombs and we paid extra to see Tutenkamen’s. Taking photos inside the tombs is FORBIDDEN, but Jonah managed to sneak one in - he learned his lesson though because his camera was confiscated and he had to pay the equivalent of $2.50 to get it back as long as we promised not to tell anyone that the guards took the bribe (NOT shocking in Egypt. at all.). The biggest surprise of the day was meeting an M.O.T. as we hiked up to the tomb of Tuthmosis IV. From there we headed off to Hatshepsut’s temple which has deep significance for me since I did my World Civilization Honors project on this female Pharaoh. If you are ever in KC drop by my mom’s house to see the video…it’s worth the 5 minutes of your time. We ended the evening meeting yet another Egyptian who was willing to spend time with us (for free!) - he happened to be a cousin of Amr’s from the Bob Marley Hotel - and got to talk to him about things ranging from his personal life to what the everyday Egyptian thinks about Israel. He took us to the Ramadan party pictured above as we made our way back to the hotel.
